01 / The starting point
What needs to line up.
A useful assessment looks at the requirements together, in the context of your circumstances.
- Demonstrate internationally recognised exceptional and outstanding achievement in a profession, sport, the arts, or academia and research.
- Have a sustained achievement record and show how you can establish yourself in your area in Australia.
- Secure a qualifying nominator with a national reputation in your field: an eligible Australian individual or organisation.
- Receive an invitation and meet the applicable visa criteria; an invitation alone does not establish eligibility.
A summary of key criteria, not a complete eligibility test. Stream-specific requirements and exceptions need individual assessment.
02 / Prepare with purpose
The evidence behind
your story.
- Independent evidence supporting the achievements claimed in your expression of interest.
- Completed Form 1000, with nominator reputation and status evidence.
- Evidence of Australian opportunities and your ability to work or support yourself in your field.
Keep records accurate and consistent. Agree a secure method before sharing personal documents.
03 / Understand the stages
A clearer view of
the process.
- 01
Review the published invitation priorities and submit a documented expression of interest.
- 02
An expression of interest remains active for two years; an invitation is not assured.
- 03
If invited, submit the visa application through ImmiAccount within 60 days and include Form 1000.
04 / Make informed decisions
Details that matter.
- An expression of interest is not a visa application.
- Priority categories and invitation activity should be checked against current Home Affairs guidance.
- A strong career or investment alone does not prove the exceptional-achievement standard.
05 / Plan realistically
Costs, timing
and expectations.
Understand the total
Government charges, professional fees and expenses such as assessments, tests or translations are separate. Confirm the current charges and agreed scope before committing.
Allow for uncertainty
Published processing times are indicative. Individual cases, evidence requests and programme settings can affect timing. Avoid relying on an expected decision date for irreversible plans.
