Your next stepDiscuss your circumstances General guide

01 / The starting point

What needs to line up.

A useful assessment looks at the requirements together, in the context of your circumstances.

  • The Employer Sponsored stream requires an approved sponsor’s nomination for an eligible regional role.
  • Generally, be under 45, have three years of relevant work experience, competent English and a suitable skills assessment; specific exemptions apply.
  • The Labour Agreement stream follows the agreement’s occupation, English and assessment provisions, including any permitted age concession.

A summary of key criteria, not a complete eligibility test. Stream-specific requirements and exceptions need individual assessment.

02 / Prepare with purpose

The evidence behind
your story.

  • Nomination reference and details of the regional position.
  • Skills assessment or exemption evidence, qualifications and employment records.
  • English, identity and family documents, plus relevant health and character evidence.

Keep records accurate and consistent. Agree a secure method before sharing personal documents.

03 / Understand the stages

A clearer view of
the process.

  1. 01

Confirm the role’s designated regional location and the relevant sponsorship stream.

  2. 02

Coordinate the employer nomination with your visa application and supporting evidence.

  3. 03

After grant, comply with work and regional conditions and retain records for future planning.

04 / Make informed decisions

Details that matter.

  • The visa is provisional. A later subclass 191 application is separate and conditional on eligibility.
  • The usual work conditions connect your employment to the sponsor or permitted associated entity.
  • Labour agreements vary. Check the actual agreement rather than assuming a concession applies.

05 / Plan realistically

Costs, timing
and expectations.

Understand the total

Government charges, professional fees and expenses such as assessments, tests or translations are separate. Confirm the current charges and agreed scope before committing.

Allow for uncertainty

Published processing times are indicative. Individual cases, evidence requests and programme settings can affect timing. Avoid relying on an expected decision date for irreversible plans.
